What Am I Doing This Weekend?

Two Words: Double bounties. In Diablo 3. Yes, yes this is what I am going to grind.

WoW News

It’s pet battle bonus exp week and I find that to be an immensely fun event. See, if you’re leveling on an alt, and do a pet battle with appropriately leveled pets for the zone that you’re in, you get loads of experience for your alt. That happens at all times, not just during the pet battle bonus week, but with the bonus week it showers a ridiculous amount of experience on your pets, as well.

It’s funny because I don’t really consider myself to be huge into the pet battling game, but I’ve wound up with like two dozen max level pets just via dailies and messing around. Go figure.

Other Game News

I’ve discovered a fun game called Grim Dawn, which is a Diablo-clone because apparently I need more Diablo in my life. I’ll probably write up more on this game next time I do a Good Games That Are Good column.

My FFXIV free month appears to have expired, so that’s probably that for now. Nothing wrong with the game; I just found it difficult to get into after the first couple of weeks.

Hey Readers, I Baked You a Cake

…okay, I mean, I didn’t really bake you a cake. But. It’s the thought that counts, right?

I have nothing new to report in World of Warcraft because I am busy playing the heck out of Diablo 3. I’m pleased to report that this game is the most fun I’ve had in quite some time, and since it’s a Blizzard game, it’s also fiendishly addictive so it’s all I’ve been playing.

I really love my wizard a great deal. I’ve tried to get into the other classes and find them less fun, for whatever reason. There’s just something about being a little bundle of arcane energy and exploding everything that’s really refreshing.

You guys won’t mind if I talk about stuff that isn’t WoW, right? All three of you readers who are actually still here?

I Kind Of Think I’m Done With FFXIV

Yep. I think I’m pretty much done with A Realm Reborn. Oh, there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s pretty fun. It’s very good looking. There are a lot of things that it does better than WoW. But when it comes down to it, well… I’d still rather be playing WoW. Or Diablo 3. (I’ve kind of been playing a LOT of Diablo 3 as of late.)

So yeah. It’s certainly not something I’d be averse to trying again in the future, especially when I have more time. But for now… I think I’d rather be in Azeroth. Or Sanctuary. (Mostly Sanctuary. Can’t lie.)

Playable Triple Triad was a really nice touch, though. Now, if only I was any good at it…

Good Games That Are Good: Diablo 3

Yup, it’s finally time to talk about the game that has devoured my life recently: Diablo 3.

I’ve long been a fan of ARPG lootfest style games like this, but I didn’t actually start playing D3 until the expansion hit. Various things about it kind of turned me off to it, and I preferred to stick with spiritual successors like Torchlight.

Then the expansion came out and with it a ton of quality of life changes. I picked up the game and was pleased to see that it was an extraordinarily fun romp, especially for couch co-op (yes, I first played this game on console with a controller.)

Not only is Diablo 3 a very solid, well… Diablo-clone (to use a phrase coined by the very series itself) but there are a lot of little things about it that I like. The music is unsurprisingly fantastic, as are the cinematics – those are two things that Blizzard has pretty much always done right. But I am also very fond of the way that the game’s difficulty is so adaptive. You can set it on an easier mode or you can make it devilishly difficult, and the latter will have your character rolling, jumping, and teleporting around frantically as you try to dodge the dangers all around you. Throw in the account-wide paragon system and you have a game that is also very friendly to those with limited time. The result is a game that is as hardcore as you want it to be. And that’s a really good thing.

If you haven’t played Diablo 3 yet, then now’s a fantastic time to do so. The new season recently started so everyone’s kind of getting back into it. Check it out – and be prepared to get addicted.

I’m Playing a Lot of Good Games Right Now (Including WoW)

It’s occurred to me that I really like where WoW is at currently. It’s nice and relaxing and I have goals to work towards, like mounts and titles. I still have LFR stuff to do if I want, plus a million other optional things that are available for me if I want. I don’t know, it’s just nice and cozy right now. And I like it, although the kids don’t like it that much they prefer to go in the garden and play in one of those solid wood outdoor playhouses since this are more exciting for them.

Other stuff I’ve been playing:

FFXIV: A Realm Reborn! I’m a level 12 archer currently. There’s a lot of stuff about the game I don’t understand but I’m having fun running around killing stuff. As a lifelong Final Fantasy fan I do dig the little touches like the victory fanfare when you level up.

Diablo 3! The new season started so I kind of got back into this game after some time off. There’s something relaxing about going around murdering demons in the name of loot.

So many games… so little time.

Are You Playing Diablo III Yet Because Holy Frick

I know, I know, I’m behind the times. Pretty far behind the times. But I finally caved and snagged both Diablo III and the expansion.

And you know, I love me some ARPGs. I love them a lot. I love the Torchlight series, I love Baldur’s Gate II Dark Alliance, and of course I love the older Diablo games. There’s something pure about the idea of a lootfest isometric RPG; something that reminds me of playing old arcade games back in the day. You just go around and kill things and collect prizes. No questions asked.

So I knew going in that I was probably going to love D3, but dang. I don’t know what Blizzard did but I cannot stop playing it. I made a wizard and between the whole tornado summoning thing and feeling like Jubilee with Arcane Torrent, it’s an absolute blast.

Also yes, I am spending tons and tons of money on transmog. Because welcome to my life.
