Hunter Kindergarten: Chain-Trapping 101

I’m enjoying this movie thing so much that I decided to make my very first real instructional movie:

Tawyn and Tux show you the basics on how to chain-trap in an instance.

I noticed something though. Something that didn’t even occur to me until afterwards when I was watching the finished product.

…I kept using certain pronouns.

…like “we”… and “us”…

…is it a hunter thing, or is this what happens when you read too much BRK? Have I been permanently transformed? Am I doomed to refer to myself in the plural form from here on out? WHAT SORT OF MONSTER HAS BEEN UNLEASHED?

/cough

Enjoy the movie, hopefully it’s helpful to some of you =D And I promise I’ll start posting some non-movie stuff again too.

And yes, I know I have a dorky voice.

  1. Wow…I can’t believe I forgot about Distracting Shot.

One of the perks of being a Marksman is that we can trap casters with Silencing Shot. I love it. =)

  2. I disagree about having to run towards your tank. I personally prefer to run circles AROUND your tank, kiting the mob as you go.

Also, as a Marksman and an Engineer, I have Scatter Shot and Frost Grenades as extra tools for trapping. 🙂

And yeah, Silencing Shot is golden.

  3. Your next movie should be Trapping 201: Trapping in difficult situations. You could piece it together from multiple videos such as one where you trap a caster without silencing shot, and maybe some other difficult trapping situations that can be resolved with skill.

If you wanted to get a group together to do it, I’m sure we could get some people together to do something like normal slabs or something for no reason other than getting a movie made.

  4. nice one Pike! Thanks for the info 😀

on a side note… my 6 months old seems to like your voice – kept turning to see where it was coming from 🙂

  5. As a raiding BM hunter, it is a hunter thing. Same as, if a healer heals my pet as well as me, they jump to the head of my Christmas list.

  6. A hunter and his/her pet are a team, using “we” and “us” is perfectly natural. I have had trouble picking a second pet to level and train up because of how much I’m attached to my Humar.
I’m sure we will find someone that feels like family eventually.

    Ralowae and BlackTooth.

  7. Wow, your tutorial made me realize that I’m actually doing something right! Hehehe!

I must be the only Hunter in the world that still uses the first person singular. I guess I still have a long way to go! =D

  8. Nice vid, you will have to do one on LOS trapping for the non MM’s out there now 🙂

  9. I would like to agree with Euripedes, by the way.

<_<; And yeah, like LS said, you should do a video on difficult trapping – if you do Karazhan with any regularity, maybe do a video of you chain-trapping a Moroes add? I did that for the first time a few days ago (you commented on the article :P) and that was probably the hardest bit of chain trapping I’ve done to date.

  10. Nicely done Pike.

Thanks for the video’s, keep them coming.

As others have said, your voice is fine. Much easier to listen to then that some other hunter doing instructional video’s; whats his name again? 😉

  11. The difficulty with doing a run in Kara, if I may be so bold as to speak for pike, is that it would mean she couldn’t be on vent telling us when her traps were resisted etcetera. The Moroes fight is still a difficult one for our guild, largely because we always have one or two people in the group who are less experienced than everybody else. Still, it’s a video I wouldn’t mind seeing, and would be happy to help make.

Also, a bunch of people in the blagosphere think my girlfriend is sexy, I hope she doesn’t find somebody who can out DPS me, and run away with him or her! D=

  12. Well, Pike could always do post-commentary for the video, or something. 🙂

I dunno, I just did it for my first time a couple of days ago, and figured that was a good next step for a 201-themed video.

  13. You guys should check Pike’s March 8 post. She bounced around traps with another hunter at the Moroes fight. It doesn’t provide commentary, but you get to see what kind of chaos a Kara fight can bring.

  14. Very nice. Personally I prefer your crazy music and text explanation like your previous movie instead of voice narration =) but that is just me. Keep up the great work!

  15. hey Pike of the Non-Dorky voice, great tutorial. I am a fairly new WoW player and having it visually explained is a great help. Thanks /tips hat in appreciation

  16. God, I wish they made fraps for linux. I WoW on my linux laptop during the week and would love to record some of my (mis)adventures as a survival hunter. I know, BM does the most dps in raids, but there’s something to be said about having a 24 second cooldown on traps that hold mobs for 26 seconds (without Beastlord) ;).

BTW, getting vent working in linux isn’t really that hard. I’m running 3.0.1 currently without the extra key capturing software. If ya want, I’ll be happy to send a copy of my winecfg running on Gutsy.

  17. Big Black Wolf – sadly, it’s not an issue of whether or not most people can get Vent working in Linux, because I know most people can. It’s an issue of something weird with my computer that means I have tried for some six months to get it working and it won’t because of some weird bug. Trust me on this one. =P

  18. Ugh. Sorry to hear that you have one of those weird issues. Wasn’t trying to come across as though you don’t know what you’re doing with your *nix, it’s glaringly obvious that you do. My apologies if I gave the wrong impression.

Just trying to offer what assistance I can to a fellow hunter who prefers to run on free software.

  19. Big Black Wolf – Nah, you didn’t give any sort of wrong impression, so don’t worry about it. =D I appreciate all the help people offer me in regards to this issue. It’s just unfortunate that it’s a problem that I don’t think can be fixed at this time.
